Press releases
The Tripp Trapp® boom continues
At the Kind und Jugend fair in Cologne on the 13th – 16th of September, Stokke will broadcast a series of updates regarding their product line. However, the best news for Stokke is continues to be that the Tripp Trapp® chair for children won the Stiftung Warentest for the third time in a row and is selling more than ever – after 35 years in the market.
August/September 2007
The creation of Tripp Trapp® is a legend in its own right. Peter Opsvik could not find a suitable chair for his son that would allow them to easily sit at the table together. The adjustable height and depth of the seat and the footrest gave his son – or any other child of different age or size – the ability to be seated at the perfect height, as well as providing a footrest to bring the floor up to the childs feet.
After being launched, the overall impression of the chair was unique to that of any other chair on the market. This uniqueness gives Tripp Trapp® a market advantage that it has benefited from since. 35 years and counting, Tripp Trapp® is still an important and growing product for Norwegian manufacturer Stokke. This month Stokke celebrates the delivery of Tripp Trapp® number 6 million to a lucky child somewhere in the world. The chair – unchanged since its launch in 1972 – now sells better than ever. Recently winning the high chair testing by the renowned German consumer goods testing agency Stiftung Warentest for the third time in a row, Tripp Trapp® has shown that it continues to be an innovative, comfortable and safe product for children.
The success of Tripp Trapp® rests not only on the fact that it is The chair that grows with the child™ and the joy of life around the table, but also on its continuous updating of accessories. These accessories add further improvement of the relationship between the child and their surroundings, safety and comfort. This includes such features as a baby set, a safety harness and cushions. Both the beechwood base and the accessories are offered in a variety of colors. The option to choose between ten chair colors, as well as a range of accessory colors and patterns, gives endless mix-and-match possibilities to those who are more style-conscious.
The product news available after the beginnng of the Kind und Jugend fair, includes an improved ease of use buckle on the Tripp Trapp® Harness as well as two new colors – red and blue.
Awarded – and copied – success
Sales for the Tripp Trapp® say it all, but the chair has also has received a lot of awards over time (see “facts”).
Stokke welcomes competition as long as it is fair: Less desirable competition comes from copycat products from around the world. Tripp Trapp® has been copied hundreds of times. Though the copying is indisputable proof of success, Stokke is not just sitting back and watching this phenomenon. Stokke has one of the longest and most successful track records of defending its intellectual property rights through legal actions all over the world and ensuring that the consumers get what they expect when buying a high chair that looks like one of theirs.
